Washburn is a powerful athlete that posted monster numbers as a senior at Webster High School in Webster, Wis. He hit .746 with 9 homers and had a 1.00 ERA over 42 innings pitched with 100 strikeouts. His dominance was enough to earn him Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year and PBR Player of the Year honors. He has picked right up in college, playing every day as a freshman for a deep Texas Tech team and putting up impressive numbers. Owen is the son of former big league lefty Jarrod Washburn, who spent 11 years in the Majors as a starter for the Angels, Mariner, and Tigers. Jarrod finished 4th in the Cy Young race as the ace of the Angels staff that led the team to a world championship in 2002.
