Steven Birnbaum

Steven Birnbaum is a defender for DC United in Major League Soccer. The Irvine, California native attended the University of California, Berkeley and played five seasons for the Golden Bears. He made the All-Pac-12 First Team in 2011 and 2013, and eventually became the captain at Cal. Steven was selected 2nd overall in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft by DC United. He was a finalist for Rookie of the Year, and has been a stalwart in the heart of the DC defense ever since. Steven’s performances in MLS launched him into the United States Men’s National Team pool, and he made his debut in 2015. Steve has 11 caps and one goal for the USMNT. Steve is a member of the Jewish Hall of Fame in Greater Washington as well as Southern California.
