Alonzo Carter is a highly experienced football coach and former mentor of elite running backs, currently serving as the Assistant Head Coach and Running Backs Coach at the University of Arizona, a role he has held since January 2024. Prior to this, he spent seven seasons at San Jose State from 2017 to 2023, where he also served as recruiting coordinator and assistant head coach, earning Mountain West Recruiter of the Year honors in 2019. Under his guidance, Spartan running backs achieved standout performances, including a league championship in 2020 and national recognition for ball security. Carter’s coaching career began at McClymonds High School (1993–2006), followed by a successful tenure at Contra Costa College (2010–16), where he led his teams to four conference titles and multiple bowl game victories. Notably, before coaching, Carter was a choreographer and lead dancer for MC Hammer in the early 1990s—a unique chapter that shaped his leadership style.
