Dan Grunfeld is a former professional basketball player, a graduate of Stanford University, and a renowned public speaker. During his moving and entertaining speaking events for organizations around the world, Dan shares his family’s inspirational story — the world’s only journey from the Holocaust to the NBA — to highlight the immense power of perseverance, hard work, and hope. Dan also uses heart and levity to focus on the importance of honoring our shared human history and treating all people from all backgrounds with kindness and respect.
Dan was a two-time Academic All-American at Stanford and an All-Conference and All-American basketball selection. After an eight-year professional basketball career, Dan earned his MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business in 2017 and currently works in venture capital. Dan’s dad, NBA legend Ernie Grunfeld, is the only player in NBA history whose parents survived the Holocaust. Dan is the author of the critically-acclaimed book, By the Grace of the Game, which details his family’s improbable journey and confirms the incredible power of the human spirit.
"Dan succeeds at telling his story and his family's story in an easily-accessible manner. He knows how to make his stories interesting, with just the right amount of details, whether it's of his grandmother's experience with Raoul Wallenberg or his dad's basketball success. He also understands the vital significance of Holocaust education at a time when so many races, ethnicities, and religions are under attack."
