Danny Freund is an accomplished American football coach and former quarterback, currently serving as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach at Washington State University, a position he assumed in February 2025 after one year as Co-Offensive Coordinator at South Dakota State. He began his coaching career at the University of North Dakota—his alma mater—where over 13 seasons he served in roles coaching running backs, quarterbacks, and wide receivers before being promoted to Offensive Coordinator in 2018. Under his guidance, UND reached the FCS Playoffs three times in four seasons, producing top-tier passing efficiency (67.1% completion in 2022) and strong red-zone and clock-control metrics. As a player at UND, Freund was a two-year starting quarterback, setting team completion percentage records and ending his career with over 5,200 passing yards and 47 touchdowns. Off the field, he holds a degree in banking & financial economics (2008) and a master’s in educational leadership (2013), and he and his wife Ann have three children.
