Kyle Zimmer is a professional baseball pitcher for the Kansas City Royals in the MLB. Born in San Francisco, California, Zimmer moved to San Diego as a child, where he later attended La Jolla High School. Here, he played first and third base, as well as pitcher. Interestingly, Zimmer only pitched 22 innings his senior year, but was named MVP with a batting average of .410 and 23 RBI. Zimmer then went on to play college baseball at the University of San Francisco, where he began playing pitcher, as the team already had an all-conference third baseman. After Zimmer’s freshman year, he played summer baseball for the Alexandria Aces in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League. Later in 2011 he was named first team All-West Coast Conference.

The Kansas City Royals later drafted Zimmer with the fifth pick overall in the 2012 MLB Draft. After the 2015 season, Zimmer made the Royals 40-man roster, but struggled with injuries. In 2019, Zimmer again signed with the Royals on a major league contract, and he is currently still with the team.
