Metropolitan Opera singer Lucia Lucas is the first person to make her career as an openly trans singer. She began her career as a full-time opera singer in 2009 after receiving her artist diploma from Roosevelt University. Her international singing career began in Germany and led her to the UK, Korea, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and Poland.
She often speaks publicly about her experiences as a person of trans experience. She has given many talks at companies and conventions, as well as many online seminars. She speaks not only on LGBT+ issues but also on art advocacy and self-empowerment.
Lucia made her Metropolitan Opera début as Angelotti in Tosca and has since returned as Gretch in their new production of Fedora (featured in the live HD Broadcasts). In 2023, she created the title role of Lili Elbe in the World Premier of Tobias Picker’s opera, expressly composed for her at Theater St. Gallen, Switzerland, made her debut with London’s Barbican Centre, as well as her debut with the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
