Matt Rhule is an American football coach and former player and current Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach. Rhule began his football career as a walk-on on the Penn State Football team. Upon graduation, Rhule was hired as the linebackers coach at Albright College. After one year, Rhule served as a position coach at Buffalo, UCLA, and Western Carolina before being hired as Temple University’s defensive line coach in 2006. Rhule then became the quarterback’s coach in the following season, his first offensive coaching role, and was eventually promoted to offensive coordinator in 2008. 

 


After 6 years at Temple, Rhule joined the New York Giants staff as an assistant offensive line coach. In 2016, Rhule was offered the head coach position at Baylor which he took. After leading the Bears to an 11-1 season (7th ranked Nationally) in 2019 Rhule was named the head coach of the Carolina Panthers. Rhule would go on to coach the Panthers for 2 seasons before being hired to be the head coach of the Nebraska Cornhuskers in 2022.
