Robert Griffin III is a former NFL quarterback and football analyst for ESPN. He was born in Okinawa, Japan, where his parents were stationed as US Army Sergeants. His family settled in Copperas Cove, Texas, where Griffin III became a three-sport high school athlete in football, basketball, and track.

 

In 2008, Griffin III committed to Baylor University, where he would play football and run track. He started 11 of 12 games for the Bears as a true freshman, where he earned Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors. After an impressive college career, Griffin III won the Heisman Trophy in 2011, becoming the first student-athlete from Baylor to win the award. Other accolades include the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, the Manning Award, AP Player of the Year, Sporting News Player of the Year, Consensus All-American, Big 12 Player of the Year, and First-team All Big-12.


Griffin III was selected second overall in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. In his debut game, Griffin III’s stellar play earned him the title of NFC Offensive Player of the Week, the first time an NFL rookie received the award in their first game. He was also awarded the NFL Rookie of the Week title that week. Griffin III ended the season with three NFL Rookie of the Week, two NFC Offensive Player of the Week, and one NFL Rookie of the Month nod, and was named to the Pro Bowl. Griffin III spent four seasons with Washington, then later spent time with both the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens.


In August 2021, Griffin III signed a multi-year contract with ESPN as a college and NFL analyst. Griffin III calls a weekly ESPN/ABC college football game and contributes to ESPN’s coverage of the College Football Playoff, Super Bowl, and other significant events. Additionally, Griffin has his charitable foundation, the RGIII Foundation. It serves underprivileged youth, military families, and domestic violence victims. Griffin III is married to Estonian heptathlete Grete Sadeiko. The pair has four children: Reese from his first marriage, Gloria, Gameya, and Gia. The family enjoys leading a very active lifestyle, with Robert and Grete enjoying playing golf together and the girls all involved in tennis. The family enjoys making TikTok videos surrounding their interests and activities. Griffin III has a keen interest in video games and collectibles in his free time.
